As students of the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, Abraham & Thakore were inspired and dazzled by the wealth of the clothing and textile culture that surrounded us. From brilliant colour and mirrors, to the subdued elegance of black and maroon hand woven and hand printed textiles, the design education was informed by exposure to one of the richest textile and craft traditions in the world.
The Abraham & Thakore collection for Autumn Winter 2012 consists of strong separates. Dresses and coats; tunics and trousers- basic building blocks for a modern urban Indian woman's wardrobe subtly inspired by traditional clothing silhouettes.
The fabrics are of silk, cotton and wool and explore the very nature of decoration and ornamentation with a fresh look at embroidery, block printing, bandhani and mirror work.
The colour palette ranges from black, white and ivory to the many shades of lac, madder and red.
