Leicester-based company Bodywear Leicester Ltd (Bodywear) is celebrating overseas success having won orders worth about £25,000 from Finland and Ireland, thanks to UK Trade & Investment.
Established in 1980, the company specialises in manufacturing fashion clothing for ladies. Eager to expand overseas the company approached UK Trade & Investment to help explore international business opportunities.
Working closely with Suzy Bolton, international trade adviser based at Leicester, the company participated in a UK Trade & Investment sponsored trade mission to Finland in February 2005. This helped the company to showcase its products to overseas buyers and as a result, the company won an order to supply about 600 fashion items worth about £5,000 to Finland in March 2005.
Inspired by its initial success, the company later participated in another UK Trade & Investment trade mission to Dublin in October 2005. This served as an important opportunity to interact with prospective buyers in the Irish market and negotiate deals.
A series of meetings were organised between the company representatives and potential partners and in November 2005, Bodywear signed a deal with Heatons, to supply 1,700 fashion clothing worth about £20,000 for its stores in Ireland.
Tarun Mehta, owner of Bodywear said: “UK Trade & Investment has been very helpful to us in opening up new markets for us. Thanks to them I decided to participate in two trade missionsand have secured two overseas deals. The business opportunity provided by them has been extremely crucial in helping us expand overseas.”
