Unitedworld Institute of Design opens in Ahmedabad

As the country is fast becoming one of the emerging design destination for industrial and non industrial sectors in the global design footprint it is now imperative to cultivate a world class design talent pool. To cater to the needs of the industry, United Group announced the opening of United Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. The institute will be affiliated by Gulbarga University and will contribute in shaping the skills of talented designers in various design disciplines.

The new campus located in Karnavati Knowledge Village. The institute will provide students with multi dimension educational interaction with the students of management and design specialized field.

United Institute of Design will offer four years fulltime degree programme in five disciplines of design from this year. These design disciplines include fashion design, lifestyle and accessories design, product design, interior design, fine arts (visual communications & graphic design) and post graduation in fashion retail management area.

The students of the institute will have an advantage as they will be mentored by alumni of country’s premier design and management learning centres. Alumni of National Institute of Design (NID), Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University & Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.University Vadodara will impart learning at the United Institute of Design.

Three alumni from NID, CEPT & MSU Prof. Pradeep Choksi, Prof. J.G. Sevak and Prof.Pankaj Patel will lead the institute by designing the academic curriculum and educational activities as mentor & principal faculty. Several other faculty & alumni of NID, CEPT, NIFT& MSU will also be part of the core faculty and visiting faculties of various design disciplines at UID.

Managing Director of United Group, Mr. Ritesh Hada said, “The Design Profession has a big potential & opportunities in the fast growth of Nation, but there is a big gap in the availability of design talent due to the few numbers of design institutes offering professional courses in the country. As we decided to set up a centre of excellence in design education to take part in filling this gap, we knew that Ahmedabad is the perfect place. 

“There are already many expert design faculties in the city, because of the presence of various primer design institutes like NID, CEPT and NIFT. The presence of many industries and professionals whom we can engage as visiting faculties is also an added advantage for us.”

More than 200 students applied for admission out of which only 50 students were selected for the first batch. “We are going to keep the numbers restricted so that quality is not compromised at any level” said Mr. Hada.
