LVMH-like Indian luxury house may soon become reality

An Indian luxury house, similar to the Paris-based LVMH or Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, might soon become a reality as a private equity firm has initiated talks with leading Indian fashion designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee as well as multi-designer retailer Evoluzione for such a venture.

Evoluzione, which has been nurtured with a passion for style by Tina Malhotra and Atul Malhotra, has over the years evolved into a byword for the finest in fashion and style.

The company, which has a rich list of design labels and also houses accessories, confirmed to Fibre2fashion that it is currently in talks with a PE firm for forging a joint venture for setting up an Indian luxury house.

Similarly, well-known designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee also confirmed that the label is in talks with a PE firm for establishing a new company on the lines of LVMH.

It is learnt that the said PE firm is also in talks with other Indian fashion designers for the proposed venture.

The new company will have minority stakes in the design houses of leading Indian designers, while Evoluzione would oversee back-end distribution business.

The establishment of LVMH-type company in India will help in promotion and consolidation of Indian fashion globally, while helping brands to improve their marketing, retailing and operating efficiency, and in turn, boost profits.
