The annual Leather Research Industry Get Together (Lerig 2006) scheduled for January 28, 2006 is to focus on untapped areas to achieve a market share of minimum 5 percent growth. Currently India has 2.5 percent global share.
Dr T Ramasami, Director, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), said that Lerig 2006 would after discussion of various aspects, formulate policies and technology up gradation for leather sector's expansion. A white paper in this context, is scheduled to be prepared by Lerig 2006.
Researchers, scientists and leather industry representative would get together in a discussion with NMCC Chairman, Krishnmurthy to achieve the maximum from expansion of leather sector.
The National Manufacturing Competitive Council (NMCC) has recognised the role and importance of leather sector in employment generation. Large section of socially and economically weaker class of the society depends on the leather sector.
