The opening day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Spring-Summer 2013 witnessed a unique fusion fashion show titled ‘Dutch Fashion Here & Now India’ (DFH&NI), presented by a collaborative team of designers from FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) and Netherland’s HTNK fashion recruitment and consultancy foundation and House of Denim.

The collaborative show featured several creations by Indian designers like Suneet Varma, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna as well as Dutch fashion designer Jan Taminiau and designer duo Diederik Verbakel and Marieke Holthuis of the label DIED.

Suneet Varma's opulent Christian cathedral inspired ensemble range was a beautiful blend of European couture sensibilities and rural Indian handicrafts. The sophisticated and feminine collection includes drapes, sarees, lehengas, cholis, turbans and veils.

Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna’s capsule collection 'Fallen' signifies a dreamlike charm with glimpses of illusion and ecstasy. The designers showcased vivid hand created textures and unexpected revealing cuts on transparent fabrics in shades of vanilla, cream, grey, bright corals and raspberries.

Jan Taminiau's collection was an amalgamation of gothic darkness and soft romance that features jackets, gowns, tunics and skirts seasoned with a dash of motifs.

The futuristic designer duo Diederik Verbakel and Marieke Holthuis presented their exquisite clothing line made of hand-dyed and printed silks. The collection includes a range of gowns and tunics in hues like grey, white, black, tobacco brown and pink.

The earlier part of the day one at WIFW was graced by some spectacular collections from Payal Pratap, Atsu Sekhose, Surily Goel, Shalini and Paras, and Kiran Uttam Ghosh.

Payal presented a bohemian collection, drawing inspiration from the costumes of the kutch desert. The line featured coloured blocked saris with cross stitch detailing, gypsy gilets with deep angarkha scooped necklines and wide leg ghagra pants.

Atsu’s contemporary collection includes shorts, parka jackets, trousers, shirts, dresses and evening gowns in colours like red, cobalt blue, off white and beige.

Surily featured playsuits, asymmetrical dresses, drapes, mini-dresses and skirts with an interesting use of Aztec prints and geometric designs.

Designer duo Shalini and Paras, of the luxury label Geisha Designs, presented a range of loose flowing tea dresses from the Edwardian Era.

Kiran’s artful collection showcased salwar-pants with patch work pockets, skinny cigarette pants, multilevel jackets, sarongs, layered tunics and long column dressesfeaturing hand embroidery, sequins and metallic zardozi work.
