To meet the fashion industry’s ever-rising demand for skilled workforce, the Bhubaneswar branch of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has launched a one-year fashion retail management programme, which would commence from October 15, 2012.

The course structure includes visual merchandising, retail planning, category management, retail buying, retail supply chain management and fashion merchandising.

Several local as well as international designers are now eyeing Bhubaneswar for establishing or expanding their business, but the city lacks skilled workforce to cater to the retail fashion industry, which propelled the institute to launch the 30-seat program, which aims to bridge the demand-supply gap for skilled workforce in the fashion retail industry.

Irrespective of the earlier academic stream, a graduate with good communication skills can apply for the course. Good communication skill is of vital importance for this course as fashion retailing job involves wider interaction with people.

According to industry analysts, local entrepreneurs are also gifted with talent, but they lack proper presentation skills, which keeps them away from success. Such entrepreneurs could benefit from this course.

To facilitate participation of working executives the course timings have been kept in the evening.

NIFT has associated with at least 16 organizations to facilitate placement of the course pass-outs.
