Saree, the wonderful nine-yard-long unstitched piece of cloth that lovingly drapes and accentuates the beautiful curves of Indian women, is back in vogue, thanks to the recently released Hindi film ‘English Vinglish’.

Directed by the young Indian director Gauri Shinde, ‘English Vinglish’ marks the comeback of veteran Hindi film actress Sri Devi, who is seen sporting a range of beautiful and elegant south cotton sarees in the movie.

The protagonist of English Vinglish is a middle-aged housewife, played by Sri, who is in quest of her identity which has got lost somewhere in her household duties.

The sober, single-toned sarees, worn by her in the movie help in depicting the various moods and inner turmoils she was going through.

For example, a plain white cotton saree she wears in a scene with her kids portrays the softer motherly side of her personality and the synthetic one in jungle print reflects her struggles in the path of rediscovering herself.

The sarees that feature in the movie include cotton-mixed block print, Kanjivaram, Ikkat, Georgette-lycra and tasar jute silk in pink, white, brown, maroon and rich green shades.
