Multi-channel retailer Sears Canada has issued a safety notice for the Sears Baby(TM) soft soled leather shoes manufactured by Luna International.
Sears Canada is issuing this notice to alert customers of a potential choking hazard involving the Sears Baby(TM) woven tab, which is attached to the side of the shoe. It has been discovered that the woven tab may be pulled off, and inserted by the infant into his/her mouth.
The Sears Baby(TM) soft soled leather shoes fit infant sizes 0-24 months, and were available in a wide range of colours and appliqué designs.
The Sears item numbers affected are: 28417, 28418, 28419, 28420, 28477, 28478, 28479, 28480, 28768, 28889, 28890, 28891, 28892, and 28893. The shoes were sold at Sears Canada retail stores between January 2005 and January 2006 for $19.99.
Customers who have the affected shoes should stop young children immediately from wearing them and either cut off the affected woven Sears Baby tab from the shoe, or return the shoes to their nearest Sears department store for a full refund.
Sears Canada has received one report where an infant pulled off the tab and inserted it into his mouth; however, there have been no reported injuries.
Sears Canada immediately removed the item off sale and will be posting signs in all of its retail stores to advise customers of this safety issue. Sears Canada is bringing this matter to the public's attention in the interest of consumer safety and apologizes for any inconvenience.
