Drawing inspirations from his personal fashion journey; Kunal Rawal presented a contemporary men’s wear line at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013. Once again recreating his love for retro and military influences onto his collection, Kunal showed his well-known signature style.

To match the martial inspiration, the colours remained earthy with beige, brown, military green, red, black and mustard for shirts, trousers, jackets, waistcoats and blousons. The fabric choice was ideal for summer wear as metallics, crinkle cotton, suede, silk, and cotton created a great base for the masculine silhouettes.

Inspired by his factory or Karkhana where unfinished garments gave Kunal creative ideas, he started with a shirt featuring a hanger print (line of shirts) and Tee. Soon, the rather grungy line of shirt blazers, blousons, jackets, short sleeve blazers and bundis were shown in a range of chaotic prints.

There were crowshat, carton, paint prints along with hangers for his western and Indian lines. Sleeves had contrast lining; jackets came with elbow length options, while printed churidars brought colour to the traditional garment.

Detailing came in the form of tuxedo collars for kurtas, contrast knit sleeves, soft patched sherwanis, and zippered racing suits. Footwear caught the eye as loafers, Kolapuris, boots, mule with prints and striking colours gave the garments a perfect balance.

Shirts often had fake jacket lapels but flap pockets gave a smart detailing to the khaki shirts. Trousers where fitted and kurtas almost looked like shirts and were at times accessorised with ceramic bow tie and waistcoat.

Keeping the best for the last, Kunal brought two dashing show stoppers – Shahid Kapoor the handsome hunk whom girls swoon over and Bollywood’s new ‘Ishaqzaada’ Arjun Kapoor who strutted down the ramp with seasoned style.

Shahid rocked in a paint print Tee, soft deconstructed jacket with gold buttons; while Arjun boogied in a black kurta with contrast yellow sleeve lining, black bundi and churidars. For men’s wear that is sharply cut with edgy fine tailoring, Kunal Rawal’s collection had many innovative options.
