Sales at the 417 Douglas perfumeries in Germany were also higher – by 1.4 percent to 288.3 million EUR – enabling Douglas to secure additional market share and extend its segment leadership. EBITDA in the Perfumeries division totaled 85.8 million EUR after 77.1 million EUR in the previous year's period.

In the Jewelry division, the core brand Christ further strengthened its leadership of the German market. Despite a persistently weak market environment, sales at the 191 Christ jewelry stores rose by 0.8 percent to 98.4 million EUR during the first three months of the new fiscal year. The eight René Kern jewelry stores increased their sales by 23.2 percent to 16.5 million EUR. EBITDA in the Jewelry division totaled 21.9 million EUR after 23.3 million EUR a year earlier.

Sales at the 13 women's fashion stores operated by Appelrath-Cüpper totaled 40.4 million EUR, almost matching the previous year's level. The 11 Pohland menswear stores posted sales of 16.9 million EUR, a slight decline of 0.3 million EUR compared to the previous year. EBITDA in the Fashion division was 6.9 million EUR following 7.2 million EUR a year earlier.

With a lifestyle strategy keyed to outstanding service, first-rate product ranges and stimulating ambiances, the DOUGLAS Group subsidiaries have built a solid platform for success in the new financial year.

In the Jewelry division, the concentration is on expanding the core brand Christ. The objective is to further extend Christ's leading market position in Germany and to establish Christ as the most popular source of fine watches and smart jewelry. To this end, some 10 new jewelry stores are due to be opened and the partnerships extended with exclusive watch and jewelry collections by Jette Joop, Toni Gard, Laura Biagiotti and Nina Ruge.

In the Fashion division, Appelrath-Cüpper remains on track for further expansion. Two new stores are due to open their doors in the fall of 2006: in a downtown location on Berlin's Tauentzienstrasse with some 4,000 square meters of sales space, and in Hamburg's Alstertal shopping mall with a sales area of approximately 2,500 square meters. The menswear provider Pohland will be sustaining the realignment program initiated in 2005.

Douglas brand epitomizes competence in the fields of beauty, bodycare and fragrances. The perfumeries lead the European market and, with a contribution of 58 percent, generate the highest sales in the DOUGLAS Group.
