Footwear exports to Malaysia in January 2006 gained significant value of US $1 million, which is 4 times higher export turnover than the same period in 2005, informs General Customs Department of Vietnam.
Malaysian consumers in 2005, fell for cheap slippers of all types that costs on an average less than $1 per pair.
However, total export revenues of these goods last year, reached just nearly 500 pair of products, worth over $8.5 thousand.
Since early days of 2006, high quality slippers and shoes from Vietnam are attracting Malaysian customers.
Within January this year, leather slippers export turnover to Malaysia soared sharply up to 10.18 thousand pair of slippers, earning US$ 145.6 thousand.
Thereby, total export revenues of all slippers in January 2006 recorded a 20 times higher than that of January 2005, worth US$ 156.72 thousand.
In particular, sandal exports created earned highest value at about $105,000 (only $24,000 was accounted for entire 2005), of which leather sandals accounts for US $ 956,000.
Besides, leather shoes exports to Malaysia rose four times and 15 times during same period 2005 in terms of quantity and value, respectively.
