Accessories retailer Coach Inc will be opening its eighth flagship store in Japan and the first located in the city of Kobe.

The Coach store will be located on a premier corner site in the central Motomachi shopping district facing Tor-Road, one of the most fashionable streets in Kobe, and is expected to open in June of this year.

Ian Bickley, President and CEO of Coach Japan Inc said, "We are extremely excited about our flagship location in Kobe, one of the most commercially important fashion cities in Japan. It will represent our second flagship location in the Kansai region and fifth outside of the Tokyo area, following locations we have opened in Sapporo, Osaka, Sendai and Nagoya over the last two years."

"Our sales and market share gains in Japan have been robust, as our business has continued to grow rapidly during the last few years. Clearly, Japanese consumers have embraced Coach's accessible luxury proposition - aspirational, stylish, well-made product, at an affordable price, available in image-enhancing locations, wherever our consumer chooses to shop," Bickley added.

The 6,200 square foot store (approx. 580 sq mts) on two floors has been designed by the Coach Architecture Group. The material palette will reflect Coach's signature style with a honed limestone facade, mirror-polished nickel details and bleached walnut fixtures.

Lew Frankfort, Chairman and CEO of Coach Inc, said, "We are delighted with this new flagship, which is certain to become an important shopping venue for Kobe area consumers. Opening new flagship locations - notably outside the greater Tokyo area - is a key part of our strategy to grow our market share in Japan, along with expanding highly productive shop-in-shops and continuing to focus on driving productivity through consistent product flow and distinctive newness. Kobe in particular is a market where the Coach brand is underdeveloped and therefore represents significant potential."
