Mervyns suggests new pair of shoes enhance self-esteem

The most preferred shoe styles for the spring season include strappy sandals, wedges and sequined flip-flops.
-- Spring cleaning - While the majority of women (61 percent) own at least 11 pairs of shoes, 50 percent of women indicate they wear fewer than half of their shoes on a regular basis.
The main reason women cited for not wearing all of their shoes is that they feel their shoes do not match their current wardrobes (32 percent).
This statistic is not surprising given that nearly one in three respondents (31 percent) own a pair of shoes that is at least 11 years old, and more than half of the women have shoes that are at least six years old.
-- Kicking the winter blues - Buying the right pair of shoes might be the ideal solution for women wanting to add spring to their step.
Most women (58 percent) feel that wearing a special pair of shoes can increase their self-esteem.
-- Footing the bill - The largest group of respondents (41 percent) indicate that they spend an average of $25 to $50 for a new pair of shoes, in contrast with seven percent who will spend more than $100.
"The results of this survey reinforce what they already know --women love to shop for shoes.
But it also tells us that women are looking for the latest styles at a great value so they can keep their shoe wardrobes current with the latest fashion trends," said Aline Tewes, Mervyns' vice president/ merchandise manager, shoes.
