Bon-Ton Stores to close Bergner's Colonial Village store in Rockford

Department store operator The Bon-Ton Stores Inc announced the closing of its 130,000 square foot Bergner's store located in the Colonial Village Mall in Rockford, Illinois in mid-May 2006.
Byron Bergren, President and CEO of Bon-Ton said, "The decision to close the Rockford Colonial Village store is in the best interests of both our company and our customers and is consistent with our strategy to focus our resources on our most productive and profitable stores. We remain committed to the Rockford market, not only with our two remaining store locations, but with our Rockford Distribution Center.”
“We will continue to serve our loyal area customers in our nearby store locations at the Cherryvale Mall and the Machesney Park Mall. We will devote additional resources and further enhance the merchandise offerings at the remaining Rockford area stores," he added.
Bergner's employs approx. 100 associates in the Colonial Village store. These associates either will be provided the opportunity to consider available opportunities to transfer to nearby stores or will be supported with an appropriate severance package.
Bergren noted, "We are very appreciative of the dedicated team of associates in this store, several of whom have served our Rockford customers for many, many years."
Bon-Ton Stores Inc operates 272 department stores and seven furniture galleries in 23 states in the Northeast, Midwest and Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Elder-Beerman, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates.
The department stores offer a broad assortment of brand-name fashion apparel and accessories for women, men and children, as well as cosmetics, home furnishings and other goods.
