A new line of jeans designed to cater to Muslims who prefer to stay comfortable while they pray has been introduced.
The jeans are high around the waist, wide around the legs and have lots of pockets, said Luca Corradi designer of Al Quds jeans.
The bagginess of the jeans makes sure that the wearer does not feel stiff while bending down repeatedly during prayers.
The pockets are meant to hold the accessories that Muslims have to put away while they worship.
The jeans have green seams because green is the sacred color of Islam.
Corradi said the jeans are manufactured at a plant near Karachi, Pakistan.
Al Quds representatives said that the product required research and testing for a year, with models trying out different versions of jeans while they prayed.
Abdel Hamid Shaari, President of Islamic Cultural Institute in Milan informed that low priced jeans may be received well in Islamic countries and nations having large Muslim populations.
Al Quds has sold the initial 9,500 pairs it produced to the French retailer Carrefour SA.
Carrefour SA has sold about 50 pairs of jeans at a promotional price of $22.53 in its centers in Italy.
Corradi said the regular price would be $30.44.
Al Quds, based in Udine, prefers to initially create an impression amongst Italy's 1.1 million Muslims and then introduce it to the estimated 18 million Muslims of Europe if successful.
Carrefour clarified that they did not intend to market the jeans exclusively to Muslims.
