The newly unveiled structure of the Museum of Costume and Textile of Québec (MCTQ), which is opening its doors for the normal visitors from April 19, 2013, is hosting an inaugural exhibition featuring some of the masterpieces from the museum’s collection of 7,000 antique costume pieces.

Titled as ‘Tapis rouge: Fashion at the Museum’, the expo, which will run till October 6, 2013, will feature haute couture gowns from the famous couturiers of all times, including Schiaparelli, Jean Patou, Thierry Mugler, Arnold Scaasi and Christian Dior.

In addition to the big names, creations by Quebec’s eight contemporary designers, such as Christian Chenail, Michel Desjardins, Jocelyn Picard, Helmer Joseph, Valérie Dumaine, Tavãn & Mitto and Marie Saint Pierre, will also be displayed.

The exhibits include a 1975 Schiaparelli flowing black layered dress and scarf hemmed in gold, a 1971 cut-out mini designed by Irène Chiasson, a smooth architecture inspired outfit from Dumaine, Picard’s knit sweater, a glass-embellished jacket and gown from Helmer and a sumptuous floral ball gown by Christian Chenail.

Established in 1979, MCTQ or the erstwhile Musée Marsil boasts of a large collection of traditional and modern fineries like Mayan textiles, Panamanian molas, hats, quilts and a range of embroidered pieces.
