Home-grown regional design talents showcased an array of eclectic ensembles on the opening day of the inaugural edition of Fashion Forward (FFWD) in Dubai, which aims to focus both on traditional runway shows and industry-related educative discussions.

Innovative luxury menswear brand Emperor 1688, by the designer siblings Babak, Haman and Farhan Golkar, presented its debut catwalk presentation at the event. The line included impeccably tailored suits, sleekly cut trousers, intricately embroidered blazers, t-shirts and shirts for men. The label’s womenswear range featured cocoon dresses and voluminous skirts with geometric prints.

Essa, owned by the Indian-Arabian designer Essa Bhagoorwala, showcased an India-inspired collection at the event. Based on black, white and various shades of blue, the range included kurta-like tops, harem pants, poufy jackets and dresses with insect patterns.

Womenswear Specialist Tahir Sultan of Kuwaiti and Indian origin invoked the inner goddess in women through his 1940-inspired dark collection. The line presented pleated jumpsuits, fedora hats and a variety of deconstructed shirts in cotton, chiffon and silk.

Designers Celine Der Torossian, Bashar Assaf and Hussain Bazaza from the Starch Foundation showcased three different yet very wearable collections at FFWD. The ranges included colourful dresses and tops as well as densely textured maxis and a-line outfits.
