Long maxi dresses and flowing gowns are the highlight of 2013, and online fashion retailer Milanoo.com has the lowdown on what's trending in the world of long maxi dresses.

Recent shows around the world have had ladies craving floor-length cheap maxi dresses in vibrant colours and innumerable "how to make your own maxi" tutorials have been popping up all over the internet.

An age-old trend, leading fashion designers like Gucci, Halston, Biba and Stella McCartney have always been experimenting with them, and succeeding. Whether a chic Bohemian look or an iconic Hollywood star look, long maxi dresses will make sure you look your best.

These classy and debonair maxi long dresses come in many forms and silhouettes, like flowing, drapey and slim or body hugging styles. They are available in plain fabrics and prints and come with different necklines like a high neckline, strappy or strapless, or the halter type. There are no specific fabrics for these show stoppers and anything – chiffon, silk, cotton, or polyester – can form a beautiful maxi.

Brightly Coloured Flowing Maxis
The Issa London show at London Fashion Week for the spring/summer 2013 season saw models walking the ramp in bold pink and orange combinations. These maxis can be belted or left loose and can be accessorised with funky gold ornaments.

Monochrome
Even the plainest of the maxis can be turned sexy with a hint of neon yellow and a racer back. Monochromes are the in-thing this year. A few black stripes on a white maxi will make you look gorgeous and yet simple this summer. Another variant of the monochrome look is the plain white maxi dress that gives an innocent and feminine look. White always adds to the serene nature of a woman and her beauty. Just a note of caution: a few too many embellishments here can result in a bridal look.

Graphic Prints
Stand out from the crowd this summer with a bold graphic printed maxi that has appeared in many shows this year. These maxi dresses give a breezy look, perfect for an outdoor activity.

Cut-out Maxis
These designs add an element of naughtiness to an otherwise elegant dresses. Small panels are cut out from the waist area in order to amplify the hourglass figure a woman desires.

Long dresses that reach the floor are beneficial in more than one way – firstly, it never looks odd, you won't feel uncomfortable, and it hides all physical flaws you think you have like huge thighs, skinny legs, etc. Mostly, one can wear these dresses in any season.
