Veteran English fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is prepping up to embark on a new journey with the famous British airline Virgin Atlantic.

The 72-year-old design talent has joined forces with the international flight company to redesign uniforms for its 7,500 employees, including pilots and cabin and ground crew.

Westwood’s designs, mainly made from sustainable fabrics like polyester yarns derived from recycled soda bottles, will incorporate 1940’s French couture cutting techniques as well as Savile Row style tailoring.

The ensembles will include burgundy coloured wool three-piece suits with shadow detailing under the jacket lapels and pockets for men and red nipped waist jackets and pencil skirts with a curved hip line for women.

The uniforms will be rolled on a trial basis in July, 2013 and would be officially launched in 2014.

Virgin Atlantic had earlier collaborated with Irish designer John Rocha for creating uniforms in the year 1998.

The prolific design veteran and businesswoman Dame Vivienne Westwood is largely credited for brining modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream.
