Stockholm to host Gaultier's retrospective travel exhibit

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To the Catwalk, the famous touring exhibit paying tribute to the works of fashion’s enfant terrible Jean Paul Gautier is finally coming to the beautiful Swedish capital city of Stockholm.

Scheduled to be held at the Architecture and Design Centre, the retrospective exhibition will feature more than 120 ensembles, created by the French design maestro during his successful fashion career spanning 37 years, in a theatrical set-up.

Slated to take place from June 15 to September 22, 2013, the event will also include a contemporary multimedia installation divided into six thematic sections, such as The Odyssey of Jean Paul Gaultier, The Boudoir, Skin Deep, Punk Cancan, Urban Jungle and Metropolis.

The Odyssey of Jean Paul Gaultier section amplifies the couturier’s universe replete with his trademark themes like sailors, mermaids and religious iconography.

The Boudoir segment reveals the designer’s fascination for lingerie by featuring the famous conical bras and corsets made for Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour.

Curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot, the exhibition would additionally showcase video footages of catwalk presentations, concerts and music videos featuring Gaultier’s designs.

Started in 2011, the event was first organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier.
