Legendary Australian fashion designer Jenny Kee has been awarded with the prestigious Australian Fashion Laureate, to honor her 40 years of contribution to the fashion world.

The 66-year-old designer is known for her bold-colored knitted jumpers that have become synonymous with Australian fashion.

Kee’s prints, featuring multi-coloured opals, crimson waratahs (Australian fauna) and jumpers knitted with animal prints, have now blended into the Australian fashion culture.

The jumpers were also popularized by Princess Diana, and Kee’s Opal designs were used by Chanel in Paris as well.

Kee made her individual mark in the Australian fashion in 1973, with the launch of her fashion store ‘Flamingo Park Frock Shop’ at the Sydney Strand Arcade.

The Australian Fashion Laureate is an honour which is awarded to recognise outstanding creative or intellectual achievement in the Australian fashion industry.

Kee has become the sixth designer to receive the Australian Fashion Laureate award, initiated by The New South Wales Government and IMG Fashion.

Other designers who have won the prestigious award are Carla Zampatti, Collette Dinnigan, Isogawa, Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson of Easton Pearson and Australian Fashion Week founder Simon Lock.
