The recently concluded first Jakarta Islamic Fashion Week furthered a new avenue for Muslim fashion by presenting a range of fashion ideas fine-tuned with Islamic culture.

The event saw 11 fashion shows by 25 of Indonesia’s established and upcoming designers.

Opening the show, well-known designers Adjie Notonegoro and Stephanus Hamy presented their latest creations. While Adjie’s collection featured Middle East fashion highlighted with rich lace details, Stephanus featured a collection in strong ethnic shades.

Another prominent designer, Malik Moestaram, presented a 16 piece collection inspired by attractive architectural detailing prevalent during the reign of King Edward VII of England during 1901-1910.

Trying to bring a twist in the fashion ideas, Denny Wirawan presented a collection of not-so-long skirts donned with knee-length boots.

Presenting his rebranded Islamic fashion line, ‘B by Barli’, Barli Asmara featured 36 creations inspired by 1940s movies like Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Style’ and ‘La Vie en Rose’.

Samuel Wattimena also fascinated the audience with his 48 piece ethnic-inspired collection for men.

Ronald V Gaghana’s gracefully designed collection, comprising of 18 fashion pieces for women and 8 for men, featured under ‘passion’ theme, mainly used silk, satin, taffeta, chiffon and tulle fabrics, which were nicely embellished with embroidery ideas from Morocco and China.

Remaining loyal to her tie-dye style, upcoming designer Dian Pelangi brought alive a splash of floral designs and spring colours of Paris in her collection that used South Sumatra’s songket – woven cloth sewn with gold thread.

Besides fashion shows, the event even hosted talk shows about fashion trends and fashion ideas.
