50 fascinating black dresses on display in Paris

The ‘Little Black Dress’, which has always remained a fascination for women of all ages and shapes is back again.

An expo with same title “Little Black Dress” has opened at the Mona Bismarck American Center for Art & Culture in Paris, France, curated by Andre Leon Talley, the former Contributing Editor for U.S. Vogue.

Mr. Talley originally created the show last year for the US-based Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), as the college dedicated a gallery in his name, and later on decided to take it to even other parts of the country.

Though the name says ‘little black dress’, all the dresses on display though black, cannot be called little, as some of them are even running till ankles.

About 50 pieces created by different designers are on display at the gallery. Though the concept is age old, most of the pieces are the ones noticed on celebrities in recent times like an evening lace gown dripping from neckline in jet beads designed by Tom Ford for Lady Gaga.

American fashion designer Vera Wang, who is well-known for her wedding dresses, has also contributed a bridal gown for the expo. The gown specially designed for the expo is an exception in the sense that instead of the usual virginal white or shades of white, the designer has used black tulle material to create the gown.

Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue also contributed a framed Chanel houte couture classic dress, which is an adaptation of Pink’s midriff-baring body-hugger created by Norma Kamali. Marc Jacobs donned a similar piece at 2013 Met Gala.

Actress and fashion designer Rihanna also contributed a McCartney gown with embroidered lace that she donned to the 2012 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala.

The expo is slated to run till September 22 this year.
