Terracotta tiles in Moroccan style inspires Sougat at LFW

Bringing in an unusual inspiration – Zellige, a terracotta tile formation found in Moroccan architecture, Sougat Paul’s label Soup presented a collection called “Decoding Zellige”. It was a contemporary offering of stylish women’s wear that had an unconventional fashion direction.

Redefining the geometric forms, shapes and adding intricate motifs, the Sougat Paul collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 was understated in its feminine qualities but had that casual yet chic appeal. Detailing played an important role to add trendy touches to classic silhouettes. Colours struck a fashionable tune starting with bright festive shades and then moved to subtle pastels.

A mix of prints, profusion of colours and dash of embroidery for silk boleros, pants with side prints, gilets with beadwork and blends of contrasting fabrics like net/silk created an unconventional look.

Striking on the ramp was a sleeveless embroidered leather shawl collar cover, pre-stitched saris that were colour blocked, cut work shrug for a stylish jumpsuit, draped sari with cropped leather bolero, layered chiffon/satin kurta and gown with knit-crepe panels. Permanent pleats appeared often for the pants and gowns giving the ensembles a very formal easy appeal.

For garments that have sophisticated styling combined with great wearability, “Decoding Zellige” by Sougat Paul will create a new fashion code.
