The Franklin Historical Museum in the city of Franklin, Massachusetts, US is hosting the popular Wedding Gown Exhibit, which will run till September 8, 2013.

The exhibit displays wedding dresses ranging right from the 19th century till today, especially gowns from late 1800s with ancient pieces recently discovered by curators of the museum, by comparing photographs to items in the museum’s bridal collection.

The exhibit displays an eye-catching ‘Priscilla of Boston’ gown from 1954 embellished with tiny blue flowers.

The well-known 1940s ‘Parachute Gown’ prepared from silk material of a parachute that Edward Rabaioli, a pilot serving in the US Army during World War II, sent to his would-be-wife Emma Velluti, in Franklin from Japan, is the centre piece dress at the exhibit.

The exhibition showcases wedding gowns from the earlier period that are now making a comeback in fashion which have been obtained on loan from people.

This includes a Flapper style wedding dress from the 1920s, which re-evokes the spirit of the Jazz age, a unique era of feminine glamour and style.

The exhibit also showcases a hoop style gown from 1959 obtained on loan.

The most interesting part of the exhibit is that most of the dresses are being displayed alongside the pictures or stories associated with them, with details like date of the wedding and name of the couples.

As most of the wedding dresses are very old and delicate, some even requiring mending, volunteers with the Franklin Historical Commission accepted the responsibility of sewing, mending, ironing and dressing mannequins with the gowns, before the actual exhibit kicked off.
