A handful of students and alumni of Iowa State University’s apparel, merchandising, and design program are taking to the big stage this week, mingling with some of the most prominent professionals in the business at New York Fashion Week.

They’re attending runway shows and presentations, working backstage dressing models, and writing for fashion magazines.

Kaleigh Kramer is there with Marie Claire fashion magazine of New York, where she is Iowa State’s fifth intern. Katelyn Hall is there for six days with Rodarte of Los Angeles, where she interned this past summer. And Mackenzie McArthur is working with designer Anna Sui of New York, where she also interned.

“I've returned to NYC to work on Anna Sui's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show, after being requested by Anna herself to return for the show,” said McArthur, a junior at Iowa State.

Iowa State’s apparel, merchandising, and design program is well-connected nationally and sent more than 100 students to intern with businesses in Iowa, across the country, and around the world this past summer.

Anna Sui’s show will be held Wednesday at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and McArthur is helping with all of the preparations. This includes assisting with fittings, attending meetings, running errands, sewing final details on show garments, and styling assistance.
