Well-known Filipino designers are going to showcase their creations made from indigenous fibres at ‘Fibre Filippine Go to Rome’, a four-day fashion show and trade exhibit organized by the European Network of Filipino Diaspora-EU (ENFiD) in Rome next month.

‘Fibre Filippine Go to Rome’ is an effort to make Philippine fabric be part of mainstream Italian wear and use, a continuing process of keeping alive Philippine culture among Filipinos overseas and injecting it as an aspect of Italian culture.

The fashion show to be held on October 17, 2013, would feature the works of top Filipino designers like Anthony Legarda, Renee Salud, Ditas Sandico Ong and Patis Tesoro. These designers would create their garments using local fabrics made of pina, abaca and banana fibres.

The fashion show would be followed by a trade exhibit from October 18-20, where Filipino firms engaged in the production and design of local fabrics would feature their products.

Cacharel Apparel, ELM's Accesoria de Casa, Gida’s Tnalak International, Herb’s International Best, Janlen International Export Inc., Kath’s Handicraft, Klowil Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Twinkle Ferraren, etc. would be exhibiting their products at the trade show, according to a statement from the Department of Trade and Industry, Philippines.

According to Marie Luarca Reyes, organizer of the Fibre Filippine, the purpose of organizing trade exhibit is primarily to introduce to the Italian society the abilities and talents of the Filipinos in the use of their natural fabric and to showcase creativity of Philippine artists using Piña, Abaca and Banana in haute couture fashion, ready-to-wear, fashion accessories, table linens, handkerchiefs, doilies, bags, table napkins other industrial uses and to bring Philippine’s fashion culture to Italy featuring the Piña, Abaca and Banana, fibers that have many uses but not internationally known and recognized.
