LCF lecturers speak on 'Fashion now & then' at LIM college

The conference was held by LIM college on October the 3rd and hosted delegates representing many areas of fashion scholarship.

Karinna presented her forward looking research about how a new kind of shopping space which mixes retail and leisure, named the 3rd space, is being used to revolutionise the retail experience for consumers. Rachel presented her research into how co-creation is being increasingly used by fashion brands as a business strategy.

The conference was a key networking opportunity for the two fashion thinkers, both of them meeting people for future collaborations. The pair met with the Dean of LIM, and Karinna met with the CEO of King and Partners, Tony King, to talk about future collaborations.

Karinna spoke of the importance of their visit to LIM, “It is vital for LCF as a thought leader in the field of fashion to discuss and critique our work on an international platform so we are able to consider a global perspective from both practitioners and academics and in order to make connections for future research.”

Karinna and Rachel packed in the fashion retail research opportunities whilst in NY: they attended a WGSN social media customer service workshop; saw presentations from Stylesight and Donegar Group; visited lots of exciting new retail formats around the city such as Story, Warby Parker and the Hermes pop-up store; interviewed the Lanvin flagship store manager; and visited indie stores in Williamsburg.

They even managed to grab some time to seek out a ‘cronut’ – the latest NY food craze that combines a croissant and doughnut. Not quite managing to get hold of one was merely a minor setback in their mission to learn as much about new retail trends and make important connections for the future of LCF whilst visiting New York!
