The awards were presented at a star-studded, exclusive gala event at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
G-Star is a denim pioneer since 1989 and focusses on denim craftsmanship and innovation. Its designers are constantly pushing the boundaries of denim, which has resulted in several breakthroughs in the world of denim in terms of fabric innovation and denim construction techniques.
G-Star collections originate from a product development principle, in which product functionality and authenticity are top priorities. The innovative character of the brand continuously leads to new denim concepts, like the introduction of 3D denim construction techniques with the G-Star Elwood in 1996.
Created by G-Star chief designer Pierre Morisset, the G-Star Elwood mapped out a pioneering way of thinking about denim. In 2009, the continuous process of 3D innovation resulted in another G-Star classic, the Arc pant. The latest cut in the 3D denim line, the Type C was introduced in 2013. Constructed with an extremely tapered fi t and elongated rear pockets, the Type C is unrestrained, yet razor sharp.
For women, denim designs are all about the details and fabrication, such as its Ultimatestretch fabric woven from an optimal blend of cotton, Lycra and poly fibres for more than 50% stretch with xceptional recovery. On the back of this development of this fabric G-Star introduced the Jeg Skinny, a denim with maximum freedom of movement and breathability, which snaps back consistently to its original shape.
The latest denim innovation for the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection includes Upcylcle denim, a new premium fabric from post-consumer denims, turning worn-out items turned into innovative sustainable denim. In addition, G-Star introduced the deep intense blue colour RAW Mazarine, inspired by the indigo shade Toile de Chine which pre-dates denim.
With both the warp and the weft indigo dyed, this colour represents the ultimate denim blue. The entire G-Star design team includes 50 people globally (main studio in Amsterdam, and offi ces in Paris, Saint Rémy de Provence, Tokyo, LA and Maastricht), with 12 designers for the women’s collections and 9 designers for the men’s.
Besides designers, the team features the patterns specialist, artwork developers and trend & innovation researchers. In nearly 25 years, G-Star has opened over 500 monobrand stores (including Asia) through franchise partnerships, bringing its worldwide distribution to over 6,500 outlets in more than 68 countries.
