The emerging Qatari fashion labels, run and owned by the young women of the country, will work in partnership with some of the biggest names in British fashion industry under a long-term collaborative project Fashion Exchange, to be held as part of the Qatar UK Year of Culture programme.

Following the success of just-held London’s Victoria and Albert Museum’s September, 2013 edition of Fashion Exchange, the event aims to offer an in-depth knowledge of fashion industry through student training programmes in the design, financial and marketing aspects of fashion business.

Along with a series of lectures, workshops and displays, the project, which was recently inaugurated in Doha, includes both mentorship and internship programmes.

The mentorship courses would enable women to operate their businesses and will give insight on industry best practices, followed by the British labels. The internship would offer university students a chance to work and learn the various intricate facets of fashion designing in top UK ateliers.

Additionally, American fashion designer L’Wren Scott and London-based milliner Stephen Jones will offer their valuable inputs to Qatari women designers and university students.

Also, famous Qatari retailers will offer insights into the country’s rapidly changing fashion industry to the British designers, as part of the project.
