Shoe shapes are shaping fashion trends this season.
Fashion world that offered a variety of pointy-toe stilettos for long, has transformed into providing comfort to conscious clients now.
Women are going in for wedge heels, ballet flats, peep-toes and spectators whereas previous summer women wore flip-flops for almost all occasions.
Richard Olicker, President of wholesale for Kenneth Cole Productions remarked that shoe shapes are undergoing a radical change.
Customers are going in for variety of chunky shoes and platform shoes made of cork, raffia, straw with foot beds placed on top of them.
Platforms give you height along with comfort and compromises between form and function, Olicker added.
Cork-heel style and a floral-pattern wedge are emerging as season's top sellers.
Two-tone spectators go with nautical looks and black-and-white graphic prints whereas peep-toes look feminine but businesslike.
Ballet flats are a popular option as they are easy to wear, absorb colour well and are prettier than flip-flops as they are acceptable at most places.
Espadrilles are also one of the favourite summer style. They are a natural match for Bermuda shorts, short shorts and baby doll dresses, said Lori Sternthal, Marketing Manager for Aldo.
Soft coloured espadrilles are best sellers but white is more popular, Sternthal said.
White espadrilles are easier to wear compared to most other white shoes as they may look like a nurse's shoe due to its jute heel and sole.
Strappy sandals crisscrossed up the calf have a good market, they may make a wearer's leg look longer even if the shoe is flat, Sternthal says.
The most popular shoe silhouette for this look is a metallic thong as it reminds you of being on holiday, and goes well with white clothing, she added.
