Design veteran Slava Zaitsev opens Russia Fashion Week

Famous Russian design maestro Slava Zaitsev opened the 28th season of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia in the capital city of Moscow.

Inspired from the 1990s, the range featured lightweight floral or geometric patterned daywear dresses and flower adorned hats. The 76-year-old’s eveningwear pieces included leopard print and fur accented orange, green and yellow shaded ensembles as well as checkered coats.

Yegor Zaitsev, the 54-year-old fashion designer son of Slava Zaitsev, showcased a small collection of classic, casual romantic pieces mixed with hints of military styles on the same day of the soiree.

Fashion label Zarina, in collaboration with the Russian film actress-cum-director Renata Litvinova, showcased an Autumn/Winter 2014 collection under its Zarina for Those Who Care charity project. The range included ultra feminine dresses and skirts, and gorgeous hats.

Irish author Oscar Wilde’s short story The Canterville Ghost played as a source of inspiration for Saint-Petersburg’s Technology and Design Academy grad Alena Akhmadullina’s latest catwalk creations. Infused with the late nineteenth century British vibes, the line showcased classic English men’s suits with wide lapels, mosaic-detailed fur coats, and elegant feminine lace dresses with ribbons.

Slated to run through April 1, 2014, the Moscow event will present more than 45 catwalk shows from local talents as well as internationally-acclaimed designers belonging to Ukraine, Georgia and India.
