The ‘Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945 – 2014’ exhibit is going to chart the evolution of Italian fashion industry from its post Second World War dressmaking era to the current breed of catwalk giants like Prada, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.

Scheduled to take place from April 5 to July 27, 2014, the event will feature around 90 couture designs from the noted Italian design maestros along with a collection of classic fashion photography from the archives of Foto Locchi, Florence, Italy.

Due to be held at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the spring exhibit’s women’s and menswear pieces will aim to highlight the exceptional quality of design techniques, materials and expertise that Italy is known for.

The visitors will also get an up and close view of the nation’s transformation from the end of war ruins to the luxurious 1950’s Sala Bianca catwalk shows in Florence as well as the impact of 1950s and ‘60s Hollywood movies that ultimately helped in putting Italian fashion on top of the world map.

Some of the highlights of the exhibit will be a knitted ensemble by Missoni from 1972, a fuchsia and green coloured silk evening dress by Roberto Capucci (1987-88) and an animal print Roberto Cavalli creation from his Milan Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2007 collection.
