Portugal Fashion creates artistic 'Organic' ambience

The 34th edition of PORTUGAL FASHION took place from the 26th to the 29th of March under the theme “ORGANIC”, celebrating fashion as a living, pulsating and an unrepeatable organism. The event was celebrated once again in the two main cities, one day in Lisbon and three days in Porto, at the traditional building Alfándega de Porto (former custom house).

The collections for Autumn-Winter 2014/15 were presented in a very creative atmosphere with the certainty that today Portugal Fashion is itself an organism to which various contemporary aesthetic expressions converge and teem, from fashion design to other creative industries, without forgetting traditional artistic activities such as visual arts, music, photography and video.

Lisbon was, on the 26th of March, the scenery for the opening day of PORTUGAL FASHION, with the presentations at absolutely surprising venues of the collections of STORY TAILORS (very modern proposals for men and women made out of pieces of cloth joined by metallic elements), HIBU and JOAO MELO COSTA (both collections for men and women, showing highest avantgarde in volumes with asymetrical and architeconical patterns) and the collection of the famous and recognized designer duo ALVES/GONÇALVES (excellence and elegance for a glamorous lady, standing out the handcrafted proposals with interlaced coloured bands).

After the fashion shows in Lisbon, on the 27th of March PORTUGAL FASHION reopened the runway at the emblematic Alfândega building in Porto, where between the 27th and 29th of March, the wide fan of Portuguese fashion was shown, with fashion shows by young designers, brands of clothing and footwear, and some of the best national designers.

In his new collection for men, JÚLIO TORCATO, who opened the catwalk in Porto, was inspired by the retro uniforms and decadent aristocratic luxury, building the concept of "urban tailoring” with casual suits and knitted items in brown, grey and blue.

LUIS BUCHINHO took us in his ladies collection to the universe of painter and photographer Georges Rousse, to thus create "a true architectural construction, where materials are intertwined with colours, forming several pieces within one alone".

White and black predominate, with overlays in mixed pinks and shades of blush, contrasting with strong pinks. The materials include pleated wool, double-sided tweeds, leather and leather trims, knits and printed pleats. Young designer DANIELA BARROS proposed the "Dalka" collection, emphasising on the technological materials that contrast with the natural ones, and noble fibres in dialogue with silk.

In terms of colour, black and cobalt are "illuminated" by white, showing structured and oversized coats. With the title "Bushido", the new men´s collection by HUGO COSTA was inspired by the aesthetic of the samurais, with Asiatic lines and technological materials in black, blue and white.

At the end of the night, ANABELA BALDAQUE showed the "4 hours before" collection for women, rich in textures, boucles, thick cloths and jacquard stitches, also using long fur, pressed effects, mousselines, silks and hand-woven fabrics. In terms of colours, the designer favoured grey, golden, wood green, yellow, brown, metallic copper, black and pink.
