West & east Canadian designers show at Western Canada FW

The just held edition of Western Canada Fashion Week (WCFW) featured eclectic arrays of innovative clothing designs by designers from both western and eastern parts of the huge North American country.

The opening day of the eight-day-long affair hosted an emerging designers’ competition, showcasing avant-garde creations from new local talents belonging to cities like Montreal and Edmonton as well as foreign names coming from Jamaica, Germany and Finland.

Winner of the design contest, Shannon Felding, featured a white A-line crocheted piece and a turquoise microsuede minidress ensemble teamed up with a colourful, patterned motorcycle-style jacket.

WinterCity Strategy Design Competition, another contest conducted as part of the same event, was won by the 21-year-old up and coming talent Emily Rault for her American burlesque celebrity Dita Von Teese-inspired winning creation comprised of a fitted, camel-coloured, glamorous coat with exaggerated shawl collars.

Other than the young designers’ showcases, the seasoned Edmonton-based designer Vicky Lau featured her Seven Deadly Sins clothing range on the fourth day of the fashion soiree. Inspired by anime and popular video games, the line included theatrical-style designs based on colours representing the seven sins such as purple (pride), green (envy), dark blue (lust), red (wrath), orange (gluttony), light blue (sloth) and gold for greed.

The country’s famous men’s innerwear store The Briefing Room also showcased a collection of male briefs and socks at the Edmonton event.
