The veteran Aussie designer Carla Zampatti opened the five-day-long Mercedes Benz Fashion week Australia with her latest monochrome heavy summer collection.

Replete with bold plunging necklines, the black and white range featured chic skirt suits, jumpsuits, cocktail dresses, silk organza crafted strapless gowns, and full skirt and bodice combos embroidered with orchids and daisies.

Perth-born designer Aurelio Costarella kicked off the second day of the event with his elegant gown full spring/summer 2015 collection Solaire, inspired from the works of American modernist artist Man Ray.

Taking cues from the North American gridiron footballers and homecoming queens, designer Alex Perry created his Varsity range which displayed prom dresses, colour-blocked short-sleeved crop tops, flirty miniskirts and flouncy ruffled petrol-blue mini dresses.

London’s Central St. Martin’s College grad Kym Ellery drew inspiration from the science of light and the relationship between form and shadow for her Opaque runway line. Incorporated with nomadic vibes, the black and white long fitted eveningwear ensembles, suits and corset tops were enhanced with plunging necklines and bell sleeves.

Inspired from Disney’s animated version of The Little Mermaid, designer Gail Sorronda presented her collection Mermaids Exist on the same day of the event. Decorated with colourful prints of the all-time favourite red-haired cartoon character Ariel, the line showcased fairytale-style flowing gowns and dresses.
