More than 426 apparel and accessory collections, created by over 180 foreign and local companies, were showcased at the just concluded 79th edition of Italian childrenswear extravaganza Pitti Bimbo.

The opening day of the event saw a collective fashion show, titled Children’s Fashion from Spain, presented by Spanish labels like Barcarola, Bóboli, Cóndor, Desigual, Graci, Losan, Mayoral and Pan con Chocolate.

Replete with tropical and tribal inspired motifs, the Spring/Summer 2015 pieces, meant for both boys and girls, were crafted from lightweight silk, chiffon and guipure lace fabrics. Based on sorbet hues of turquoise, mint and strawberry, the featured ensembles were decorated with fringes, crystals, beads, intricate embroidery and fruity prints.

Italian womenswear brand Miss Blumarine featured an array of flower print adorned summer dresses for little girls whereas label Monanalisa opted to showcase its maples and brightly-coloured azaleas printed tiny ensembles.

American sportswear-inspired brand U.S. Polo Assn also debuted its latest kidswear range replete with colourful prints and graphic patterns, whereas Miss Grant, Grant Garcon and L:u L:ù Girl featured stretch fleece and mesh made outfits enhanced with side zippers, hand stitched tulle and satin flowers, pearls and rhinestones at the three-day-long soiree.

In addition to the fashion displays, the event also witnessed the launch of the children’s travel book L'Italia delle Meraviglie (Wonders of Italy). Published by Vogue Italia, the book narrates the relationship and experiences shared by Italian companies like Armani Junior, Roast, Kid Diesel, Dolce & Gabbana, Inglesina, Liu Jo Junior, Miss Blumarine, Mimisol, Miss Grant, OVS, Replay & Sons, and Simonetta and Stokke with the country.
