As The Industry’s forthcoming July meeting approaches, the world’s premier members’ club for fashion professionals is proud to announce that publishing legend and advertising mogul, Terry Mansfield CBE will take centre stage. Taking place at the prestigious Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design, the private networking event is a rare opportunity to hear the fashion industry veteran return to where his career first began - in a menswear shop in Walthamstow at the age of fourteen.

Having worked as a senior executive and a director of the Hearst Corporation on both sides of the Atlantic for more than four decades, Terry has been integral to the launch and re-branding of a number of the global fashion industry’s most reputable fashion and lifestyle titles. Now a consultant for the publishing juggernaut, the last 10 years have seen him branch out as he has donned a wide array of hats.

“One passion stands out throughout my career and that’s finding new and outstanding talent – over the years, I’ve met many Industry members and I’m very much looking forward to sharing my experience and discussing the media industry in July,” says Terry.

“Print is dead” was a common refrain a couple of years ago. As consultant to the largest digital publisher in the UK, what does he prophesise for the future of the traditional printed glossy? What tips does he have for fashion businesses looking to commodify their offering through advertising and editorial? With the magazine market more congested than ever before, what do independent publishers have to do to stand out from the crowd? And as an ardent supporter of emerging talent, what does he think the next generation can do to embrace technology while harnessing the publishing paradigm of the past?

Terry’s roster of roles has included chairman of Victim Support, chairman of MOBO music, chairman of Graduate Fashion Week and he is a member of the campaign board of Historic Royal Palaces, while his travels have taken him to more than 38 countries.

“A masterful storyteller, we’re delighted that Terry will be speaking at The Industry’s next event in July,” explains The Industry’s managing director, Courtney Blackman. “You’d be hard pushed to find an editor working in the magazine business today that can remember a time when Terry was not central to the industry. The meeting will chronicle Terry’s professional journey from Walthamstow to Manhattan, including the unveiling of some never-seen-before footage from Terry’s infamous archive.”
