Designed by the Milanese brand’s head of design Donatella Versace, the collection was inspired from the 1950’s Parisian couture styles replete with structured round-shouldered daywear and rustling voluminous eveningwear looks.

Infusing several deconstructive methods on fabrics, such as sliced angles, cutaway zones, twisting and boned superstructures, the brand’s 59-year-old design veteran created perfectly corseted silhouettes adorned with luxurious embroideries, asymmetrical detailing, fringes and kilt motifs.

The featured pieces include a single sleeve diagonally fastened jacket, a semi-bustier and semi-T shirt looking bodice, a bold bodysuit-cum-ballgown, a double duchess silk ball gown skirt, and a tight-fit navy strapless bustier dress that divides around the hip area into a trouser leg on one side and tiny shorts on the other.

The entirely hand-made collection also featured several skirts and jumpsuits secured on the waist with double metal buckles.

In addition to Versace’s showcase, the first day of the event also presented a 20-piece haute couture range from a new Paris-based guest entrant, Stéphanie Coudert.

Based on voluminous, fuzzy yet structured silhouettes that allow un-restricted body movements, the creations included a knee-length cashmere and lamb wool dress coat, a long sleeve dress paired with a mohair coat, a belted lamb collar and viscose dress, a short woollen outfit with a silk veil, a metallic gold bolero teamed with high-waist black trousers, and a shiny python print short number.

Slated to run through July 11, 2014, the French haute couture event will showcase creations from big industry names like Christian Dior, Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier.
