37 names from 14 nations partake in 4th Asian Fashion Week

The event saw a combined catwalk show, which featured eclectic Batik print designs and laser cut Balinese songket crafted creations, presented by a group of 10 design students from the Indonesian design institution Arva School of Fashion and some young talents from Bolivia and Mexico.

Bibi Rushel, the first ever Bangladeshi designer to secure a Master’s degree from the London College of Fashion, showcased her teenage themed colourful collection titled Design for Life and the well-known Indonesian talent Yunita Kosasih sent models clad in stylish formalwear on the Asian runway.

Sri Lankan menswear label Hameedia, under the guidance of its Managing Director Fouzul Hameed, showcased three different looks, based on a prominent colour theme of blue, at the event. The first look was comprised of a vibrant digital and laser print adorned collection made from natural fabrics like cotton linen and denim. The second look reflected a chic Italian feel with smart and casual linen pieces in subtle shades. The third look included fine quality fabric crafted, sharply tailored, elegant ceremonial wear ensembles.

In addition to Hameedia, the four-day event also saw three more designers from Sri Lanka such as Indi Abeywardena and Sonali Dharmawardane, who presented Batik made designs, as well as Ramona Oshini, the Colombo Fashion Week designer who showcased classical and casual wear styles incorporating local handloom and batik cloth.

Started in 2011 in Guangzhou, China, the annual AFW has earlier being held in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam (2012) and Mauzuru City, Japan (2013).

AFW is supported by the World Fashion Organization (WFO), International Fashion Organization (IFO), International Trade Organization (ITO), World Fashion Brands and Merchandising Group (WFBM Group), and the ASEAN (Association of South East Asia Nations) Secretariat which represents 10 member states.
