Indian celebrity favoured couturier Manish Malhotra wrapped up the five-day-long fashion saga Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2014 with his Indian Cocktail collection.

Mixing elements from the traditional bridalwear and the contemporary women’s fashion ethos, the range was crafted from specially treated textured silks, velvets and chiffons embellished with contemporary mirror work and textured shimmer.

Designed in easy silhouettes, the ultra-feminine line was based on a rich palette of festive shades like wine and burgundy. Some of the most standout womenswear pieces were a keyhole necklined choli with net extensions, a pink bridal gown, a rose adorned grey net long lace kurta and a sequinned blouse.

The collection also included gorgeous saree and lehenga gowns with plunging necklines, trailing luxurious lehengas, floor skimming flowing skirts, racer back blouses and long kalidars.

The bridal range’s menswear entry featured an array of rich silk crafted sherwanis, jackets, kurtas and bundgalas, all decorated with horizontal velvet stripes.

Indian film actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, wearing a glittering silver front open low back kurta over a shaded shimmering diaphanous panelled lehenga and a sensational grey tulle cape appliquéd with rose motifs and lace, walked as showstopper for the designer.

The collection was inspired from the contemporary Indian beauty expert Lakmé’s latest beauty trend gloss.

Manish Malhotra said in a statement, “It was great working with Gloss as a muse. As always, Lakme is back with a beauty trend that is sure to become a game changer in beauty and I am glad to be a part of this global phenomenon, especially as a part of the very first Lakme Bridal Dream Team.”

“My new collection marries the concept of high-gloss with contemporary mirror-work, bringing alive GLOSS in a form which every neo-bride is wanting to explore,” he adds.

Malhotra’s show was attended by the who’s who of Indian film industry including Priyanka Chopra, Juhi Chawla, Richha Chada, Karishma Kapoor, Kajol, Aditi Rao Hydari, Karan Johar, Sri Devi, Bonney Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Dino Morea.
