Spring/Summer 15 fest bids goodbye to London Fashion Week

Marques'Almeida S/S'15/c: LFW
The fifth and final day of the British Spring/Summer 2015 extravaganza London Fashion Week was wrapped up by names like Simone Rocha, Meadham Kirchhoff and Marques'Almeida.

Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, the designer duo behind the Marques'Almeida label, drew inspiration from the compositions of English musician and singer-songwriter PJ Harvey for their latest catwalk show. Replete with grunge aesthetics, the denim heavy range featured baggy jeans, asymmetric silk tops, collarless jackets, bias-cut skirts, halter-neck dresses, pocketed shirts, patchwork detailed chiffon frocks, yellow skirts and oversize leather ponchos in shades of navy and sky blue, alongside black and neon.

Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, the founders of Meadham Kirchhoff brand, showcased a video game inspired line, replete with colourful quirky pieces fit to be worn to themed costume parties. The standouts were a neon-yellow leather fitted skirt and a lacy conical bra top combo, a fringe trimmed woven plastic crafted red coat alongside several vibrant knitted tops, skirts and bodysuits.

London’s Central Saint Martins’ alumnus Simone Rocha drew inspiration from the definition of romance as projected by the likes of German ballet director and choreographer Pina Bausch and the Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai. Showcasing her innovative fabrication expertise on clothes, the designer displayed embroidery on pink mesh fabrics, graphic floral patterns on sheer materials and marabou bird’s feather decorations on silvery brocade cloth. The major highlights of the collection were tulle gloves, flowing skirts with gathered detailing on the back, white sheath dresses and a simple red dress with floral appliqués all over.

In addition to the aforementioned designers, young talents like the British-born designer Osman Yousefzada highlighted his creativity through an interesting line of dresses in black, white, lime green and lavender hues. (PB)
