The just held 17th edition of the Spanish sartorial revelry Valencia Fashion Week showcased more than 45 eclectic Spring/Summer 2015 catwalk shows from a talented mix of emerging labels, newcomers and student designers.

Divided into three categories, the new designers, the Zone D (for the fashion week debutantes) and Proyecta (a newly introduced category which is solely dedicated to the fashion students who have barely gotten out of their schools).

Designer Alexis Carballosa, who showcased at the Zone D section, featured a Mahogany tree-inspired range titled Caoba. Made using lightweight silk, chiffon, crepe and charmeusse silk fabrics, the line featured 20 sensuous floating dresses in pale earthy tones with dramatic volumes, tailored waists and deep plunging necklines.

Pedro Fernández chose to showcase an organic collection made from neoprene, chiffon, tulle, crepe, organza and linen fabrics in a mixed palette of pastels and the designer’s favourite colour black whereas Jara Maldonado opted to display a wool and organza heavy range in white and off-white colours for both men and women.

Eugenio Loarce’s latest line included a rooster-inspired collection made from patterned silk, satin, lace and cotton materials in turquoise, blue, and white shades.

The three-day-event witnessed an origami-inspired line titled YGGi by the emerging design talent David Blay. Based on a palette of silver gray, sky blue, turquoise and lavender hues, the 12-piece range was replete with triangular shaped futuristic garments.

The Spaniard dressmaker Francisco Benavente showcased his monochrome based line named Byblis. Enhanced with hand crafted chiffon floral embellishments, the range included an array of beautifully draped and structured voluminous garments.

Designer Miriam Garcia showed her latest range Poltergeist at the event’s newcomers’ platform Zone D. Infused with interesting shapes and structures, the line was decorated with transparent overlays. (PB)
