Nearly 23 Middle east-based designers alongside few international names showcased their exquisite creativity at the just concluded fourth season of bi-annual Dubai catwalk extravaganza Fashion Forward (FFWD).

Iranian designer Maral Yazarloo drew inspiration from India and her ancestral land Persia to create the latest royal collection for her namesake label. Made using raw silk and rich embroidery, the range included layered gowns and playful cocktail dresses in contemporary silhouettes.

The Gulf luxury menswear brand Emperor 1688, owned by the Golkar designer brothers, Babak, Haman and Farhan, featured an innovative collection, adorned with frills and checks, made from textured and richly coloured suit fabrics.

The Lebanese brand House of Ronald opted to show pretty crop-top and skirt combos, short sleeve numbers, shiny black PVC mini tight-fit dresses and some 1970’s inspired flare detailed sleek metallic numbers at the three-day-long Emirati event.

The Cockney flower girl from My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle, played as muse for the eveningwear specialist Michael Cinco who displayed an array of flowing extravagant dramatic gowns. Based in various shades of soft pastels, the line featured off-shouldered short dresses, tulle gowns with embroidered capes, cute bubble skirts and several poufy numbers with extraordinary embellishments. The designer’s menswear line-up included an array of richly embroidered jackets.

Fashion brand Taller Marmo presented an Oriental aesthetics-inspired collection based in monochromes and pastels. Infused with a sporty vibe, the asymmetrical pieces were adorned with sun and moon prints.

Omani Fashion brand Endemage, from designer duo Lubna and Nadia Al Zakwani, drew inspiration from the coastal land of Zanzibar, located in the semi-autonomous part of Tanzania, for its latest collection. Based in hues of white, deep blue and pink, the traditional-meets-contemporary range featured fluid long dresses, light and airy maxi skirts and loose-fit tops. (PB)
