The widely celebrated Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal capped off the five-day-long 24th instalment of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014 with his regal fashion-inspired showcase.

Drawing inspiration from the rich and lush Mughal Gardens of Kashmir, the prêt-a-porter collection titled Gulbagh (which translates to ‘Garden of Flowers’ in English) paid tribute to the God-gifted unparalleled beauty of the valley.

Incorporated with the New Delhi-based 53-year-old designer’s signature contemporary look and feel blended with strong Indian sensibilities, the line was made using handloom fabrics like chanderi, fine mulmul, matka silk and voile along with luxe touches of velvet and rich brocade from Varanasi.

Replete with vegetable dye and gold leaf embossed hand-block prints, the ivory and deep jewel toned pieces were decorated with quilting details, tilla work and handcrafted patterns of metallic gold hued resham thread embroidy.

While speaking on the collection, Mr. Atul Chand, the Divisional Chief Executive of ITC’s Lifestyle Retailing Business, states, “Rohit Bal, celebrated as the master of fabric and fantasy has presented a collection marked by grandeur and each ensemble was splendid with his creative brilliance. The result has been marvelous.”

In addition to the National Institute of Fashion Technology grad’s extravagant catwalk, another designer from New Delhi named Reynu Taandon put up a flower-inspired collection entitled Secret Floral Garden at the event.

Celebrating the different character attributes that define the beauty of a woman such as nurturing, blossoming, feminine, graceful and confidence, the line was crafted from luxurious yards of silks, delicate tulles, translucent chiffons, lightweight georgettes and sensual nets.

Based on a palette of ivory, beige, gold and mustard hues, the featured ensembles were tunics, cut trousers, short dresses and ball room gowns. (PB)
