London’s Hackney Council has joined forces with the Design-Manufacturer Innovation Support Centre (DISC) and the Centre for Fashion Enterprise (CFE) to launch a new state of the art workspace to boost the careers of new up and coming designers.

Aiming to help young designers, graduates and early stage start-ups, the work studio named Hackney Fashion Lab will offer access to high-tech professional equipment that are imperative to kick-start the businesses of budding fashion entrepreneurs.

Located at the London Fields’ social enterprise space The Trampery, the work space will feature latest equipment like sewing and overlock machines, fusing press, ironing stations, pattern cutting tables and other machinery that were difficult for the designers to gain access to in the past.

In addition to providing the latest machinery, the lab will also include skilled technicians to offer on-hand technical support and training to designers.

Additionally expert guidance services in the fields of finance, legal, manufacturing and marketing will be provided at the fully equipped studio.

The workspace will be available for use through online reservations in to two hour slots at affordable rates, which will later be reinvested back into the lab for the procurement of additional equipment, training for designers and other business support services.

The Trampery is a London-based social enterprise that designs and operates spaces for entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation. (PB)
