Japanese designer Yasutoshi Ezumi drew inspiration from biomimicry, the new emerging scientific concept that studies nature’s models and then imitates or takes inspiration from these designs and processes to solve human problems, for his latest Spring/Summer 2015 presentation staged on the second day of the ongoing Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo.

Made using materials like lace, silk and cotton blends, the abstract floral pattern decorated range included both feminine figure flattering pieces like A-line skirts, dresses, wide-leg trousers and trench coats as well as some edgy asymmetrically draped looks such as black, white and blue color-block tops and vibrant blue pants.

Designer Ritsuko Shirahama showed an interesting range of re-invented classic wardrobe staples. Adorned with abstract geometric designs and printed belts, the pastel hued fur and sporty mesh made collection included a variety of woven skirts and jacket combos alongside retro-inspired headgear.

Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi, the extremely talented designer duo behind the Matohu brand, were inspired from the colours and unfinished natural state of fabric materials for their latest catwalk collection. Replete with impeccable tailoring details, pleats and flowing lightweight layered accents, the line was based on a palette of pale pastels and occasional splashes of dark green and blue shades.

The fluidity and sparkling white glossiness of the liquid metal mercury played as muse for the A Degree Fahrenheit brand’s designer Yu Amatsu who showcased several shimmering tailored looks in grey and silver hues at the event. The metallic heavy collection’s most standout pieces were silk made outfits emblazoned with the brand’s name in capital letters. (PB)
