The Turkish menswear designer Hatice Gokce kicked off the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Istanbul with her latest Spring/summer 2015 collection inspired from the 400-year-old travel memoirs of the famous Ottoman Turk adventurer Evliya Celebi.
Replete with traditional craftsmanship from the Ottoman era, the range was adorned liberally with prints of horses, Celebi’s favourite means of transport. Based on hues of silver, brown, black and metallic, the range included hats, shirts, harem pants and an array of leather crafted pieces inspired by eight different ancient civilizations from Turkey’s heartland, Anatolia.The Turkish menswear designer Hatice Gokce kicked off the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Istanbul with her latest Spring/summer 2015 collection #
The designer label DB Berdan drew inspiration from the addictive consumption patterns of the 20th century consumer society for its new runway showcase. Replete with1990s skate punk-inspired prints and the signature symbolic images of the consumer society loaded with shopping bags, the range was enhanced with sporty silhouettes and laser cut details. Emblazoned with strong slogans like ‘I consume, therefore I am,’ ‘Consume or paint,’ and ‘Be rich or negotiate,’ the featured 1990’s styled pieces were made from leather, cotton and synthetic materials.
In addition to the aforementioned names, designers like Meltem Özbek, Asli Guler and Niyazi Erdogan also featured their creations of avant-garde dresses on the opening day of the event. (PB)
