The Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is set to expand his fashion empire with a new sleek range of shirts under his CR7 by Cristiano Ronaldo brand, which was launched sometime during the end of last year.

Designed under the creative guidance of the New York-based fashion designer Richard Chai, the line, which has been manufactured in collaboration with the Danish firm JBS Textile Group, has been built on the success of the soccer star’s innerwear and sock range.

Available in sizes ranging from XS/35/36 to 2XL/45/46, the collection features shirts in three different styles including slim fit, classic fit and oxford classic fit.

Replete with contrast piping details, check patterns and stripes, the light blue, white, navy, grey and black coloured pieces are made using a combination of cotton, stretch poplin and twill fabrics and feature a CR7 tag on the bottom side-seams.

While commenting on the collection, the Real Madrid star says, “Part of my belief is always being the best that you can be. The perfect fitting shirt gives a man the confidence to become the best version of himself possible.”

“For me, a strong foundation is the most important thing throughout every area of my life. In my sporting life, a strong foundation enables me to perform at my very best and I apply the same principle to my personal life, business life and the way I dress. Dressing well gives me confidence to be the best that I can be and underwear with a great fit and modern, stylish shirts are the starting point of every look,” he adds.

Chai also said in a statement, “Ronaldo and I already have a great relationship collaborating on the CR7 by Cristiano Ronaldo underwear and socks line, and I’m excited that together we have developed a premium men’s basics brand which features well made, essential pieces. The idea of the CR7 Shirt collection is similar to the core ideas of the underwear collection. It is based on form, function and style. Part of the range is made with stretch, creating a story around the idea of mobility.”

“Ronaldo is an active individual with style and using stretch technology allows for the kind of comfort and movement that he expects from the products that he wears. The collection has a nod to tradition in finishings, but the details, materials and construction of the shirts are far more fashion forward. We have developed signature details such as a contrast piping in the necklines and a CR7 logo-ed tag on the bottom side seam. Each season, there will be focus on key trends, keeping a fresh approach whilst staying true to the characteristics of the brand,” says the designer.

CR7’s innerwear collection in divided into two sets, one meant for teenage boys and the other for fashionable adults, the luxury range includes striped socks, tight-fit briefs and boxer shorts.

Richard Chai was voted as the menswear designer of 2010 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Ronaldo plays as a forward for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and serves as captain of the Portuguese national team. (PB)
